Presidents Message:
I hope that you had many opportunities to enjoy one of the best summers in the past few years. The weather was spectacular and the fires stayed away. While the open fire ban has since been lifted, please continue to take due care and remember to have your chimney professionally cleaned to start the winter season.
The Sunshine Valley experienced a great deal of change with many real estate sales taking place all summer long. Firstly I would like to wish our outgoing members well with their new homes and secondly welcome all of our new members. I hope that you will learn to love the many aspects that ownership in the valley brings.
We had a slow start in getting our most popular summer asset open, but I wish to thank everyone for their patience while we got the pool house and pool system renovated and approved. Special thanks goes out to Robin for all of her hard work that went far and above the regular call of the job. As well, we thank Pat for volunteering his numerous hours to help get the job done.
We all look forward to snow filled winter and a cold snap that freezes the lake so we can all experience a true winter season.
Sincerely;
Peter Adamo

The Court Case:
As you are probably aware by now, everything is over except the final costs (as determined by the judge.) The rebuild process has already begun and the plans for the future are very positive. I wish to thank everyone that supported us throughout this very lengthy ordeal. We could never have survived with you.
VERY IMPORTANT: Non-Members and their guests are not allowed on SCCC property or on any trails that belong to SVDL. If you are not clear, please see the map in the sales office or contact a board member. SVDL property includes all of the trails in Huckleberry, the roadway to the Slide, the entire lake area, both tunnels (wet and dry), the meadow in Sumalo and the riding area adjacent the highway. Non-members do have access to all public roads and beyond the bridge in Alpine.
Exception to these rules will be made public and will include such things as special meetings for the community, ticketed events that may be open to all etc.
While every group in the Valley needs volunteers, the SCCC is looking for people that could be available for a recreation centre upgrade. Perhaps a little painting, organizing, tidying up etc…Please email Peter;
Peteradamo@telus.net or phone 604-860-4203.
ATV’s/Motorcycles/Snowmobiles:
This past summer saw a large increase in recreational vehicles. With this increase, we all saw a great deal of community infractions. As a result, I have once again included the list of rules:
· Always wear a helmet and proper clothing.
· Always accompany younger less experienced riders.
· Use main roads as access roads to the numerous trails.
· Please slow down on all public roadways.
· Always watch for hikers and their pets. Most pets are afraid of ATV/Motorbikes/Snowmobiles. While you may be an experienced rider, nothing prepares you for a startled pet (whether on or off leash).
· A common courtesy is to slow down when passing people and their pets.
· All vehicles must be clearly identified with your lot number.
· The airstrip is still off limits to all vehicles as well as the lower road to Huckelberry Village.
· Please obey street signs and the different villages access rules.
A reminder that he library is open every Saturday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Please drop by for a visit, borrow some of the many books or games the library has on hand.
Cedar Lake/Sumalo River:
Fishing season is almost over, so if you haven’t had a chance to experience a fresh water trout on the end of your fly rod, get in the water soon.
We had a record-breaking event with great numbers of participants at all of the events. Special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers that made things happen. The Ken McCoy band was here for the third year in row and put on another fabulous show.
The SCCC Annual Craft Fair:
Saturday October 14, 2006 For more information or to book your table, please contact Frances Kenny @ 604-860-4203 or fkenny@telus.net
The Annual General Meeting:
All members are invited and encouraged to attend the 2006 AGM.
Saturday October 30th, 2006 – Time: 11:00 am in Rec. centre hall.
All the information as well as the agenda is included in this mail out.
The Next Dance:
The Halloween bash for all ages will take place on October 28th. Get you costume ready and your tickets early, as this will be another sell out. Tickets will be available through Robin at uomi@telus.net or by phone 604-860-4369.
In our ongoing effort to offer you the members of Sunshine Valley the best possible social club, we are asking a few questions, that we hope you will take the time to answer.
Please take the time to answer the following questions. Your answers can be sent directly to any board member, dropped into the slot at the library. All answers will be confidential and used only to find out what your wants and needs are.
1. What are your expectations of the SCCC?
2. What are three things that you would like to see done this year?
3. How many dances and what kinds if any would you like this year?
4. What would encourage you to use the facilities more?
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact any one of the SCCC Directors or your President.

Looking Ahead, The Futures Bright and so is your Valley
Presidents Message:
Looks like the warm weather is finally here (well sometimes) and it’s time to welcome back our seasonal members for yet another great summer in the Sunshine Valley.
Over the winter the court case hung over our heads like the darkest of clouds imaginable and seemed like it would never end. Well it’s truly now almost over and after a full day in court last Friday, I can say that it’s not looking like a bed of roses. (See more details below)
On a more positive note, however, we have been working very hard in developing new relationships with members of the community. This as you can imagine has not been easy for all, but in our commitment to bring this community together and get back to doing the things that we are supposed to be doing, it is very necessary. We have been in discussions with the Sunshine Valley Ratepayers Association (S.V.R.A.) and had the President (Rick Gagnon) speak at one of our meetings. Rick is very positive and is as concerned as we are with the way this has gone and about the great opportunities we have in our future. Our co-operation will help everyone in the Valley appreciate all that the Valley has to offer. Not everyone is on the same page and there is plenty of work to do but I am confident that we will get there sooner rather then later. This new co-operative approach will have its challenges and we hope that your support will be there for everyone. The S.C.C.C. is a community club where membership has its privileges. We should not be the political body for the Valley. The S.V.R.A., like all residential community groups should play that role. Many S.C.C.C. members have already become members of the S.V.R.A. and you may also want to consider it. Membership information will be available soon on our website.
On your next visit to the community centre take some time to notice the new and improved hot tub/pool area. Robyn and a crew of volunteers (Husband Pat & Bob Hughes) have been working hard renovating everything from the change rooms, the hot tub room, electrical, paint and flooring. The challenges became more apparent at each step and coupled with some bad workmanship (hired professionals) our delays in reopening were unfortunate. The opening of the pool, however, has everything to do with Mother Nature. The overly high river levels this spring and early summer have kept us from draining the pool in order to clean and prepare it for the new season. This is an engineering matter and draining it now would cause it to implode.
Once again I wish to welcome everyone back a look forward to seeing our old and new members soon. Speaking of new members, there are plenty of changes in that area as well that took place over the winter. Introduce yourself to our new friends when out walking and let’s keep good old community spirit growing.
Sincerely;
Peter Adamo

Ilona has moved on:
As you may have noticed, our secretary (Ilona Bristow) has resigned. Ilona has worked above and beyond the cal of duty in her numerous years supporting the S.C.C.C. and although she continues to support the S.C.C.C., she no longer has the time to participate on the board. On behalf of the entire board of directors and all of our members, we sincerely thank Ilona for all that she has done and look forward to seeing her in the Valley a little more often.
The Court Case:
Most of the wait is over and the Judges ruling is complete. The cost ruling is still ahead and who pays what to whom will be determined in the next few weeks. Judge Joyce has asked both sides to try to settle this portion without involving the system. Being involved in a court battle that we never asked for was very frustrating and I want to thanks everyone for their continued support throughout. While I am not a lawyer, after reading the ruling (which is available on our web site) and getting professional help in deciphering the document, the outcome is as follows:
Any current member now has the right to resign. The proper procedure for this is to write a letter to the board stating your wish. You must give two months notice and pay up in full any and all outstanding balances. After that period, you will no longer be a member. Important Note: Parkhill and Meadow are both governed by the Strata Act. This may preclude members from resigning in this manner. Please talk to your Strata Council before making a decision.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Non-Members and their guests are not allowed on S.C.C.C. property or on any trails that belong to S.V.D.L.. If you are not clear, please see the map in the sales office or contact a board member. S.V.D.L. property includes all of the trails in Huckleberry, the roadway to the Slide, the entire lake area, both tunnels (wet and dry), the meadow in Sumalo and the riding area adjacent the highway. Non-members do have access to all public roads and beyond the bridge in Alpine.
Exception to these rules will be made public and will include such things as special meetings for the community, ticketed events that may be open to all etc
Volunteers Needed:
As always, your help would be greatly appreciated! An added benefit to volunteering is that, you get to meet some super people that are working towards making the Valley a better place. Many projects are coming up and a variety of skills are needed from basic labour, electrical, carpentry, design etc… You may even have supplies and or items to donate to the community centre. For more information please contact any one of the board members. Barry Huggins is working on a meeting/BBQ area at the back of the rec centre (outside the dance hall near the Bocce pitch). He would love some assistance. Norm Keller and the Meadow Village Council is volunteering to work on the children’s playground and I’m sure would appreciate some additional help.
ATV’s/Motorcycles:
Once again the new summer season has shown an increase in ATV/motorbike traffic. Safety for all is our prime concern. With that in mind please note the following:
Always wear a helmet and proper clothing
Always accompany younger less experienced riders.
Only use main roads as access roads to the numerous trails.
Please slow down on all public roadways.
Always watch for hikers and their pets. Most pets are afraid of ATV/Motorbikes. While you may be an experienced rider, nothing prepares you for a startled pet (whether on or off leash). A common courtesy is to slow down when passing people and their pets
All vehicles must be clearly identified with your lot number.
The airstrip is still off limits to all vehicles as well as the lower road to Huckelberry Village.
Lower Sumallo River between the highway and Sumallo Meadow and including the entire Meadow is off limits to all motorized vehicles. The meadow is an off leash area for dogs and their owners
Library:
A reminder that he library is open every Saturday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Please drop by for a visit, borrow some of the many book or games the library has on hand. Many thanks to Janet for her continued support volunteering her time as librarian.
Cedar Lake/Sumalo River:
With the newly improved water front park (thanks to some volunteers and the hard work from SVDL) everything is ready for summer fun. Our little ones are always attracted to water and the lake can be a beautiful but dangerous place. Children should always have lifejackets on and be under the watchful eye of an adult. There is a fire pit there now. Always abide by the fire regulations posted at the entrance of off the highway. Bring your own wood, a shovel and water buckets for safety. Never leave your fire until it is safely put out. ATV’s/motorbikes are not allowed inside the posted areas around the beach.Fishing season does not open until July 1st and the fishery regulations are the same as last year.
All adults must have a valid fishing license (They are available at Cheyenne Sports in Hope and the gas station in Silverhope)
Single barbless hook only
No live/dead bait or odoured lures
Catch and release only
No gas motors on vessels
By doing your part, you will ensure years and years of successful fishing and water entertainment for all.
The August Long Weekend:
Once again, we have a great weekend planned for all ages and for the third year in a row, we will be featuring Ken McCoy and Crosswind live on the plaza on Sunday evening. More information will follow in the upcoming weeks
What’s On Your Mind?
In our ongoing effort to offer you the members of Sunshine Valley the best possible social club, we are asking a few questions, that we hope you will take the time to answer.
Please take the time to answer the following questions. Your answers can be sent directly to any board member, dropped into the slot at the library. All answers will be confidential and used only to find out what your wants and needs are.

SCCC General Meeting
Re: application in cooperation with S.V.D.L. for Sunshine Valley to become an INCORPORATED VILLAGE
Date: April 22, 2006
Time: 2:00 pm
Location: S.C.C.C. Recreation Centre (Dance Hall)
All members are invited and encouraged to attend.
AGENDA:
Presidents Welcome and thank you for continued support along with explanation of what the future may hold for us.
Official announcement of the Court Case.
Introduction of Guests
Guest presentations re- their role in becoming an Incorporated Village and the effects on the community.
Organized Q & A.
Coffee and Snacks will be provided.
Guest Speakers:
Members of the Lake Country Municipality - they will speak about the benefits of separation from a regional district. as well as the benefits of becoming an Incorporated Village like Whistler, Belcarra, Anmore and Harrison Hot Springs.
Ministry of Community Services in Victoria is also sending one or two representatives. They want to see the support from the Valley. It is very important that we personally invite everyone that we can to this meeting.
We have a 20 point document that notes the benefits of this proposal.
1. Sunshine Valley will enjoy all the authority, rights and powers of a normal municipality when incorporated.
2. Sunshine Valley will govern its own affairs, including taxation, environmental, local forests management, local development, application for, and handling of senior government grants etc...
3. It will assess, bill and collect its own taxes, fees, dues, licenses, etc... and disperse those funds by its own decision and not the desire of the F.V.R.D.
4. It will elect its own council, and not have local governance from outside of the Sunshine Valley.
5. It will enjoy the same opportunities for enhancement of its own improvements and lifestyle.
6. It will be able to set its own standards for recreation activities and in cooperation with the RCMP, enforce its own private Bylaws.
7. It will be able to set its own contract for waste management, including fees for pick-up and or dumpster transfer charges. Currently Sunshine Valley property owners are charged for house to house pick-up but we have to deliver our garbage off site 2 kms away.
8. It will hold its own government elections, and within its incorporation include provisos whereby everyone living in, or holding an interest of any kind in the Sunshine Valley, will have a VOTE.
9. It will have the power to deflect the F.V.R.D.'s billing of $97,000.00 it collected from SV properties in 2005. To date we have received little or no services in exchange for that money.
10. Since all services, maintenance and recreation costs are raised now within the Sunshine Valley (from Sunshine Valley Owners), (only the maintenance of Cedar Village roads is contributed by the Highways Department), the new Incorporated Village will have small additional expenses.
11. The S.C.C.C. in conjunction with S.V.D.L., has managed local regulations in the Valley very well (since matters were turned over in 1984.,) This would obviously improve with a similar body like the Village council based on having the authority of municipalities and the authority to make bylaws and enforce them.
12. The new Incorporated Village of Sunshine Valley would be able to negotiate the transfers to it of S.C.C.C. properties, some S.V.D.L. properties and services and bring all of these entities under one roof for simplified and singular management.
13. The Incorporated Village could assume responsibility for the Volunteer Fire Department and could negotiate a new parcel of land from S.V.D.L. for the construction of a separate free-standing Fire Hall and a Fire Truck.
14. The Village could send its own delegates to the Regional District, Provincial and Federal Government meetings when and where necessary.
15 The new Village could acquire from the Crown, certain forest lands (like Hope is currently doing) from which it could draw economic benefits, and certain parcels of Crown land (like Whistler has done a few times) for development in conjunction with S.V.D.L. for further recreation and community infrastructure.
16. To complete the Incorporated Village formation and final approval by the Provincial Legislature, we could apply for a grant to cover the cost of hiring a professional consultant to assist and guide us in both the preparation of the final format and also for any official community plan which may be required in the process.
17. Sunshine Valley’s own Incorporated Village would eliminate the Fraser Valley Regional District’s discrimination as to who can speak and who cannot about matters that specifically affect Sunshine Valley owners.
18. The new Village would conduct consultations with all stake holders in the Valley before any by laws are passed that effect a service or change. As you may or not be aware, residents of Huckleberry are having have been imposed with heavy fees on Garbage handling. The F.V.R.D.’s area B rep has recently passed a Waste Management Bylaw without one word of consultation from any stake holders in the Valley (not even Huckleberry) or the Development company.
19. During the last 10 years Sunshine Valley has paid approximately $20,000 annually towards the budget of the Hope District Recreation Commission. At the same time neither the F.V.R.D. or the Recreation Committee will award any Grant Funds toward the operation of the SV Pool or Recreation Centre.
20. Sunshine Valley has grown up as a Recreation/Residential Community and it is now time for it to assume responsibility and make appropriate decisions to manage its own affairs.
The importance of your attendance is critical as we make every effort to move forward and finally turn the Sunshine Valley into what you want it to become.
Thanks to all.
See you soon.
Sincerely; Peter Adamo

Presidents Message:
Welcome to winter and by all accounts, this truly will be a cold and snowy one. For everyone that has a wood burning fireplace, this is a reminder that you should have it cleaned out before you start burning. The number one cause of house fires at this time of year is fireplace related. The number two is faulty Christmas lights. It’s a good idea to check those as well.
It was an amazing year with plenty of changes and many more to come. As you are all most certainly aware, the court case has finally been heard and although both sides seem confident that they have won, Judge Joyce had not yet made a decision. Either way your Board of Directors is busy planning an exciting year and look forward to having you be a part of it.
On behalf of your board of Directors and me, we wish you and yours a Happy and safe Holiday Season. I look forward to seeing you in the New Year and hope that you can attend one or all of the upcoming Special Events.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year

We still require a few more Directors. Parkhill 1, Huckleberry 1, Meadow 1. We meet approximately 10 times a year. Our meetings never run more then two hours and some great friendships have developed over the years. Playing an active role in this beautiful and unique community is very rewarding. I look forward to hearing from you.

Volunteers Needed:
While everyone loves a great event, there is always some work involved. Volunteers are an important part of every community and we could sure use some new ones this year. Last years’ thankfully are coming back, but the more the merrier.
ATV’s/Motorcycles and Snowmobiles:
Please be careful this winter as you cross the roads with your equipment or as you drive down Alpine Blvd. to get into the forest trails. Snow banks block visibility and helmet masks sometimes fog up. Travel slowly and take an extra look around until you have safely entered the trails.
The airstrip is still off limits to all vehicles as well as the lower road to Huckleberry Village.
If you have purchased new equipment this winter, please ensure that you have your lot ID number visibly placed on it.
Cedar Lake and the rivers:
While the lake has been frozen for a few weeks and areas have been cleared of snow, this area is a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK and will be all winter. Mother Nature is not something that we have any control over and your safety is most important. If you chose to use this area, please ensure that you are never alone and that you have some safety supplies (rope, whistle, proper clothing etc…). Children should never be left alone. While ATV’s/snowmobiles love racing around the ice every year, please stay off of the cleared areas. A volunteer has been working on keeping these areas for skating and ice hockey.
Prizes Welcome:
Once again, we are always looking for prizes that can be used at the numerous functions throughout the year. If you or your company can donate something, we will give you plenty of recognition and thanks all year long. Please contact your S.C.C.C. Village Director.
The Court Case:
With this long and unfortunate battle now in the hands of Judge Joyce, we simply have to wait for his decision. As noted in the Presidents message as well as at the AGM, the S.C.C.C. is moving forward regardless of the outcome. We looked at all of the options with respect to paying the last installments to our lawyers. As agreed upon, we were able to secure a small mortgage at a very low interest rate. With no more major expenses anticipated, we will be able to pay this off very quickly (even faster should we win and be awarded damages). The moneys that we have secured will pay back our Lawyers office and all of the generous members that donated (interest free) to the fight. We thank everyone for his or her continued support throughout this exercise.
Review Council:
This group includes one member from each village and is a requirement that was established when we took over from the regional district years ago. It plays a very important role regarding the future of the valley.
The S.C.C.C. is empowered to appoint the members and is currently looking to do so. The first meeting will be in early January. If this interests you, please contact me directly (Peter @ 1-800-618-4886)
The New Years Gala
Once again, we will wrap up our year in the Valley with a New Years’ bash for the whole family. We are limited in numbers so act early. Tickets are available at Scotts home C81 (604-860-4394). Tickets are free to all members in good standing (note: you are still required to have a ticket) Guests of members are $10.00 each. There will be plenty of food around midnight and loads of great prizes all night long.
What’s On Your Mind?
I have not included a calendar of events in this newsletter, as I would like some ideas and feedback from you the users of the Valley.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact any one of the village Directors or your President.

S.C.C.C. Court Update
The Supreme Court hearing, scheduled to take place at the Chilliwack Courthouse on August 29, 30 and31 2005, did proceed. As a matter of fact, it carried on through Thursday, September 1, 2005and did not complete at the end of that day. The hearing was adjourned until October 11, 2005 at the Chilliwack Courthouse, to commence at 11 a.m., and if necessary, it will adjourn to October 13, 2005for completion.
Two separate cases are being considered by Judge Joyce.
1. The Petition by Fourteen Property Owners in Sunshine Valley, against S.C.C.C and S.V.D.L/S.V.U.L. for "Oppression", primarily by them receiving bills for delinquent recreation dues.
2. A Counter Claim by the S.C.C.C. and S.V.L.D. against those petitioners, wherein the petitioners/defendants are being sued for "Breach of Contract" - having signed an agreement to pay dues, did for a while, and then ceased to pay dues for the past few years.
Of the four days of the hearing, the S.C.C.C/S.V.D.L. lawyers were given only one and1/2 hours to speak, the remaining time in the four days taken up by Barbara Lebeau, agent for the 14 owners, and lawyer Wolinofaky (acting for Haze Boyd and Tony Jongedijl (A-20 and C-24 respectively).
The Judge cautioned them both regarding the time factor, but it did not seem to have any effect on their insistence on speaking long, with much repetition.
Since S.C.C.C./S.V.D.L. Lawyers have not had opportunity to present and/or argue their side of the case, it is presumed that they will have full opportunity to do this October 11 and 13, 2005. Court time will be 11 a.m. on the 11th, and 10 a.m. on the 13th. You should plan to be thee if you can make it.

Sincerely;

1. What are your expectations of the S.C.C.C.?
2. What are three things that you would like to see done this year?
3. How many dances and what kinds if any would you like this year?
4. What would encourage you to use the facilities more?
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact any one of the SCCC Directors or your President.

Presidents Message
To all of our weekenders, welcome back. As you will soon discover, plenty of changes have occurred this year. Not the least of which is the new and improved water front park with a brand new beach area and dock. Yes the bears are back and a cougar sighting occurred last week as well. Please use extra caution when hiking in the woods and always keep your children and pets close by. While the birds of the Valley are beautiful to watch, birdseed and bird feeders are the number one attraction for hungry bears. At number two is garbage cans that are left out with garbage in them. Also use caution when attending the dump. Although the Valley is ours to enjoy, we have to remember that it is home to many wild animals that have been a part of the Valley for a lot longer then us.
With summer fast approaching two concerns are already here. The Fire Ban and The Water shortage. Please note when entering the Valley: If the red flag is up, we have a NO OPEN FIRE BAN. Also use caution with your BBQ.
Water will be at a premium this summer due to the very mild winter. Our water runoff was virtually non-existent and the forest is already extremely dry. Use extreme caution and care when having patio fires and when using the trails. Smokers use extra care when butting out.
The pool is finally open (see posted hours & weather permitting,) and that brings up the water problem. We all love splashing around on a hot summers day, however, did you know that splashing water out of the pool wastes more then 150 gallons a day. This causes our pool manager additional hours refilling the pool every morning and causes additional challenges in maintaining the pools chemicals. Please do your best to keep the water in the pool to help conserve our water supply.
Enjoy your summer.
Sincerely
Peter

Volunteers Needed
As you can see, we have a number of events and activities planned for the Summer, Fall and Winter seasons. If you can make yourself available for one or more of these events/activities, we want to hear from you. Please contact your village director and get on the list. We promise not to overwork, underpay or abuse your kindness and guarantee that you will get as much out of your involvement as those that you have helped.
ATVs and Motorcycles:
It’s time to remind everyone about the rules for ATV/motor bike owners. All motorized vehicles must have their lot number clearly visible on the back of the machine. Riders and passengers must always wear a helmet. The airstrip is off limits to all vehicles as well as the lower road to Huckelberry Village. We have had some unauthorized visitors recently that came through the Valley at extremely high speeds and put many residents in danger. When travelling through the residential areas (to and from your home) please slow down and always watch for children and pets. We have a very unique setting here in the Valley and a little extra care will go a long way in maintaining that and keeping everything safe.
We now have some brochures as well as CD Roms that deal with Safety, Ethics and Protocol for all riders.
They are available in the library for borrowing. Please return when finished.
Prizes Welcome
If any member can provide a prize or more for giveaways during our events, it would be greatly appreciated. We will offer you and your company recognition at the events as well as in the next newsletter. Please contact your SCCC Village Director.
The Ongoing Court Case
As you may or may not be aware, the pre-set court date (May 9) was postponed by a criminal case that took precedence. While we were offered a new location and new time, all parties were unable to accept. The new date will take place at the end of the summer. We will keep everyone up to date when we have some news for you.
Draft Report
A draft report was sent to board members last week which is a review of Community Planning & Development Regulations in Sunshine Valley. A copy will be made available in the library, however, if you would like to read it in its entirety, please contact Peter Adamo.
What’s On Your Mind?
In serving the members of the SCCC your feedback is extremely important, positive or otherwise. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact any one of the village Directors or the President. As well we would like to know how you would like to receive this newsletter. It will always be posted on our web site and although this one is a hard copy mail out, many have already indicated that they wish to receive it via email. If you too would like that simply email your request to pres@sunshinevalley.ca.
