December 2008 Newsletter

Board of Directors

There are 5 new board members volunteering on the 2008/2009 board. There are currently 8 board members, and there are still 3 vacant seats available on the board. If you are interested in participating, please contact any of the current board members. We meet once every 3 to 4 weeks, and for about 2 hours per meeting. We welcome volunteers on the board, and also to help out with events.

Martin Pow

My mission in joining the SCCC Committee is “To help make things better and always look for opportunities to improve the SCCC”.  Committee members over the years past and present have given up their own personal time to contribute to the SCCC cause, and therefore as I start helping I will strive to be respectful of others viewpoints and be guided by “doing the right thing for the collective”. I am responsible nationally for Quality and Risk Management for Deloitte & Touche (Accounting Firm) so I hope my skills and experience will add value to the SCCC. Thank you all for giving me an opportunity help out. Thank you Sunshine Valley for being a special place!!!

Garry Vath, Treasurer

Garry Vath moved full time to Alpine Estates with his wife, Sherry, and two of their children in April after seasonal living in Parkhill for 7 years. Garry retired in 2005 after a 30 year career with the Vancouver Police Department, of which 20 of those years were served as a Detective, the last 5 in the Homicide Squad. Garry has also become a member of the SV Volunteer Fire Department, although this must be kept a secret within the Valley, as his former workmates would not be happy to see a former police officer move over to the "dark side" (friendly rivalry). Garry enjoys retirement through travel, fly fishing and ATV'ing.

Kathleen Wallden

We have been weekenders in Sunshine Valley since September, 2001 and enjoy the time we spend in the Valley.  We enjoy ATV’ing with our grandson and walking the river trail.  I am retiring from Douglas College on December 31st and look forward to being able to spend more time at the cabin.

Doug Cavanagh, Vice President

This is my third term on the SCCC Board and I am currently the only Huckleberry Village rep. I have been a member of the SCCC for 22 years.

Some of my priorities this year are: collection of accounts in arrears, 'upgrade' games room equipment and playground, heighten facility security and enforce "green tag 'program, so members {in good standing} only are using facilities and to create a

" Seniors" membership package {with bonuses}

Linda Berg, Secretary

I moved here full time in August of this year. I have a background in senior management and human resources. I have volunteered on seven different boards in the past, and I enjoy being active in my community.

Mernie Jacobsen

My husband Jim and I are part-time residents in the valley. I have done various jobs such as a medical laboratory technologist, technical writer. I am now retired. During my time on the board of the SV Ratepayers Association I witnessed the desire for a united community.  As a new member of the SCCC board, I see the same drive for unity. I look forward to making positive and effective contributions to the SCCC board, its activities and "community unity."

IMPORTANT: Notice of change in billing

It was passed at the Nov 15th board meeting, that the annual dues would be invoiced three times a year, instead of twice a year as they have been.

The purpose of this is to make it easier for members, by dividing the annual dues into three payments a year, rather than the previous two payments a year.

Statements will now be mailed out December 15th, April 15th and August 15th.

Payments are now $120.66, 120.66 and $120.67, instead of $181.00, twice a year.
